How does Gloria Arroyo expect to govern when the people in her own backyard no longer believe in her. The mass resignation of her Cabinet officials - the “doves” who prevailed on her to issue her infamous apology two weeks ago’ and which she pathetically attempted to preempt by announcing a cabinet revamp reveals a President who is increasingly isolated and divorced from reality.

“Her government is indeed crumbling from within! And the elites are scrambling to save their rotten system," Daniel L. Edralin, APL chairperson said.

The image last night of Arroyo flanked by generals and the military was not a sign of strength. It was a sign of fear. Fear of losing power. At the same time it is foreboding: pushed against the wall, GMA is turning to military might to hold on to power.

“She must know by now that the working class will not tolerate even a hint of a return to martial rule,” Edralin added.

But to implore GMA to resign is not the solution. The succession of Noli de Castro is equally unacceptable for the working class. After all, it is the vast majority of workers who will continue to suffer under the continued reign of the elites and their lackeys. What is needed is nothing short of total transformation of our social structures.

As such, the Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL) sees it fit that the working class must now prepare to swell the streets once again not only to oust the GMA regime but also to fight the resurgence of any form of fascism!
