Statement
of the Global Day of Action Philippine Committee We
reiterate our strong opposition to the US-led war on Iraq and condemn all
forms of support to such an ill-intentioned, malicious conspiracy. Like
any nation, Iraq has the right to construct their own society and build
their future free from foreign dictates.
We
resolutely condemn the Philippine government under the administration of
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for idiotically and irresponsibly dragging us into
the US-led war and occupation. We
reiterate our call to withdraw all support to such war and order the
immediate pullout of the Philippine contingent in Iraq.
Let
the recent dreadful and utterly condemnable terrorism in Spain be a grim
reminder to the GMA government of the dangerous repercussions of
supporting the US' wars of aggression.
And
at this once again critical moment of elections in the Philippines, we
demand from the presidential candidates a clear stand on the US-led war on
terror and occupation of Iraq. We challenge the presidential candidates to
earnestly commit themselves to a democratic foreign policy agenda, one
that upholds the interests of the Filipino people.
We shall only elect public servants who are genuinely committed to
a democratic foreign policy agenda that is consistent with the principle
of the renunciation of war as an instrument of national policy, and a
democratic foreign policy agenda that is founded on the principles of
humanism, peace, justice, freedom, and human rights. Let
the Global Day of Action Against War and Occupation that we celebrate
today be a peoples' declaration of victory over the war-freak governments
of Bush and Blaire. For the
plan is not just to hit Iraq and control its oil.
The plan is also to cow the world into obedient silence.
We
will never ever give up the fight for peace, justice, and democracy.
We will continue to close ranks with other oppressed nations and
peoples in our common fight against militarism and wars.
